“TOUCH”—Exhibition of Patrick Becuwe’s Silicon works
Why “Touch”? We are accustomed to seeing in museums and galleries the words: “Do not touch!” But here we can “touch”, and we must touch! In water, in air... simply touch with our hands. We see our hand or our friends or the world through the work. Silicone is transparent or translucent; the vision and effects are bizarre. The air and the light behind the work are perceptible. That is the substance of this exhibition, we can see both inside and outside the media, touch it, and develop new sensations.
“We have to protect the world, particularly the natural world”. The new works, which Patrick is creating especially for this exhibition in Hong Kong, will illustrate this sensitive conviction. Therefore, he is introducing many kinds of organic materials into translucent silicone, such as ham (pig's flesh), wood (tree's flesh) and feathers, etc. Presently he is also introducing natural silk (insect's secretion) from China. He says, “Silk is like human skin very tough but very fragile as well.”
Patrick has chosen to work with natural silk as the first Chinese touch into the art of this French artist. The exhibition will take place in China and natural silk is well known here in both industrial and traditional activities.
