“TOUCH”—Exhibition of Patrick Becuwe’s Silicon works

Ima_invitation_back From Philosophy to Art

Why “Touch”?  We are accustomed to seeing in museums and galleries the words: “Do not touch!” But here we can “touch”, and we must touch!  In water, in air... simply touch with our hands. We see our hand or our friends or the world through the work. Silicone is transparent or translucent; the vision and effects are bizarre. The air and the light behind the work are perceptible. That is the substance of this exhibition, we can see both inside and outside the media, touch it, and develop new sensations.

“We have to protect the world, particularly the natural world”. The new works, which Patrick is creating especially for this exhibition in Hong Kong, will illustrate this sensitive conviction. Therefore, he is introducing many kinds of organic materials into translucent silicone, such as ham (pig's flesh), wood (tree's flesh) and feathers, etc. Presently he is also introducing natural silk (insect's secretion) from China. He says, “Silk is like human skin very tough but very fragile as well.”

Patrick has chosen to work with natural silk as the first Chinese touch into the art of this French artist. The exhibition will take place in China and natural silk is well known here in both industrial and traditional activities.

108 pieces of heart-healing plaster - 108 pieces of handmade brooches

HhpI  believe each of us had a broken heart , no matter it'd been healed or not.
A broken heart may be caused by a bad relationship with lovers, parents;
son and daughter; sister and brother; colleague  or even pet.
Sometimes when we lost something precious ( a job, a chance, a goal or
a memorable gift ) , this may lead to a broken heart too.

These brooches are similar to the plasters to cover wounds of the heart.
When your broken heart has healed, you can put the brooch back to the
drawer. If it left a scar after the heart healed up, just keep on wearing
the brooch to cover it up.

Kapok and Hooked present : COED tee shirt design exhibition

Invitationopening1CO-ED is our 2nd t-shirt collaboration project by KAPOK and HOOKEDCLOTHINGS, after our first successful exhibition Some Kind of Wonderful in 06. So we have once again invited artist and designers over the world to join us in this Project .

Pink is for girl. Blue is for boy. Or the other way around?

An American newspaper in 1914 advised mothers, "If you like the colour note on the little one's garments, use pink for the boy and blue for the girl, if you are a follower of convention." Pink was considered as more of a boy’s colour (as a watered down red, which is a fierce colour) and blue was more of a girl’s.

Conventions are changing. And we are less following the rules of what they should wear... Girls wearing men suits, guys rocking floral patterns or a shocking pink shirt. But these personas don’t turn heads anymore.

We are moving ahead in time where label, name, title, occupation and status are just definitions that is getting more and more complex, merging into a realm of hybridity. And it is in this shared universe where CO-ED concept comes about. We are indeed living in the power of one – uni. Its aim is to create tee shirts that can be worn by both men and women. Right from the drawing board, designs are being consciously targeted for both sexes. We are challenging ourselves to break all graphic conventions that are easily associated to both men and women and rise above the means of popular culture. Designers have complete freedom to interpret the concept of CO-ED - theoretical, political innuendos, agenda-driven or simply playful or whimsical.

With CO-ED, you can choose a tee shirt for yourself, your boyfriend, girlfriend, brother, sister, or even your dog. In CO-ED, we believe in the power of uni.

We believe in one love.

Knock Knock : No. 62 launch exhibition by Bob Foundation

No62_front No.62 is a new printed paper brand founded by Japanese creative group Bob Foundation in 2007. The philosophy at the heart of the brand aims to capture the simple pleasure of directly expressing one's feelings and personality through carefully wrapped parcels, delicate notes and handwritten letters.

The No 62 range centres on imaginatively designed printed paper items including; letter paper and envelopes, gift cards, wrapping paper, and note kits.

The launch exhibition in Kapok will be the wordwide launch for the No. 62 brand.
Hiromi and Mitsu from Bob Foundation will be attending the opening party. Please come to meet them!

“GOOD MORNING I’M SLEEPING SS08”

Image_5
When Fasion meets Theatre...

‘Good Morning I’m Sleeping’ is Daydream Nation’s SS08 Production about a character
struggling between waking up and dreaming such that time is non-existent,
and reality distorts into a world of fantastical imagery.

Their collection wowed Fashionistas and Theatre-goers at the London Fashion Week this September 2007
in two Full-house performances at their prestigious venue sponsor INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS London.

Daydream Nation is the creation of the brother-sister design duo Kay and Jing.
Kay is a Textile Design graduate from both Royal College of Art and Saint Martins, whilst Jing is a Theatre Design and Directing graduate from Saint Martins and Central School of Speech & Drama.

This season they are fighting with the daily phenomenon of waking up.

Who wants to wake up if you can dream forever?

Come to KAPOK for the Exhibition to see the Design Sketches, Props and the Video of the show for the first time in Asia!

Kapok exclusive : Jimmy x Vila Hermanos Perfumed Candles

Picture_3

Kapok is very excited to launch a new collection of perfumed candles – a collaboration between one of Asia’s most renowned illustrator Jimmy (Picture_1_4) and Spanish traditional wax manufacturer, Vila Hermanos.

100

Jimmy was born in Taipei and has become one of the most popular illustrators in Asia. He had since set a fashion in creating and publishing illustrated books in local and international markets.  Being the most popular illustrator author in Asia, has created lots of fantasy and touch hearts across all generation. Immersing in his works is just like to go into Jimmy's inner world, his inviting stories reflect the reality of real life, more and more people are intoxicated by his vivid strokes and his magic realism narratives. Now in Asia, Jimmy becomes vogue of the time, beyond his stories, "Jimmy" is like a pop of a new life style.

Jimcandle_3 The Spanish company “Vila hermanos” was created on October 19th, 1901 by three brothers : Juan Bautista, Salvador and Jose Vila Borderia. The company has been dedicated since 1901 to the manufacture of wax candles. Handcrafted in the family-owned Vila Hermanos candle factory, these natural vegetable wax candles are elegantly perfumed with natural essential oils. They are high-quality and made with all natural ingredients. Their scents are fresh and soothing.

We offer three scents of the collaborated candles…

Outside01 Perhaps you dreamt of resting on petal of roses with its subtle fragrances encapsulating you in the gentle cradle of clouds amidst a white forest, Cherub and Seraph sitting by one of the white trees playful giggling as their little wings flutters with the symphony of the winds;

Outside03 Or perhaps a revitalising scent of green tea flows through the air, shedding off the burdens of dusts from the concrete jungle, freeing your stifling soul as it ascends into a sanctuary above the valley of serenity and peace;

Outside02 Or immerse yourself into an emotional state of immense passion and affection, leap free from the chains of social conformity and run with unsurpassed freedom and joy, the refreshing air liberates you as jasmines bloom in successive rhythms filling in the voids, creating a halcyon where stallions roam free on plains, unrestrained and unbridled, the exhilaration of liberty.

Inhale freedom, breathe joy...

In this collection, noble yet simple fabrics such as cotton are used for both mens and womens wear. For women, the looks are drawn off of classic male staples. Each item is adorned with a special badge in a nod to American college insignias, melding together with the Croix de Lorraine, her homeland. Berangere Claire's first Women's and Men's Collection is classic and contemporary, with a particular attention to details.

This unique French-made collection is sold exclusively in Asia at Kapok – from October 15th, 2007.

Exhibition - "Silence" by Tung Lo

Silence_9tifsilence_9Silence

For me, art is about dream  and  honesty. Went  through many countries and museums, my  soul looking for a body, a face, a pair of eyes.
Life is a love story.
Tung Lo

Tung Lo was so fond of the child's life that he changed his name to Tung Lo, which means a road taken by a child. Born in Jieyang, Guangdong Province, in 1956, he moved to Hong Kong in 1986. From there he emigrated to the US in 1983. After becoming an American citizen, he moved to France in 1993. Tung's paintings have been exhibited in many institutes and museums of art. They are about a dream of an ancient culture. Although he roamed about the world, his oriental sentiments are strong and his colours and figures all tell us an oriental legend.
