Maxx &
Unicorn (Brooklyn, NYC)
Don't be
fooled by the bright colors. Brooklyn based Maxx & Unicorn is not
in the business of making trendy, disposable wallets. They use fine
leathers and heavy dyes and careful construction.
The leather
used for the wallets is kid skin (baby goat), typically used
for shoes and sneakers. It has a very durable finish and the
colors are dyed through and through so they will not crack, flake or
fade. Because the wallets is cut from a single piece of leather
and constructed by folding and gluing (without stitching), there are
no seams to bust nor any excess layers of leather which typically
make wallets bulky. The glue is flexible and durable so will never
dry, crack or loose is strength and separate. It is the same
glue used for attaching shoe soles.
The design of the wallet
derives from a 1940's original which is owned by Maxx & Unicorn's
founder Nathan Gryszowka and has been modified only slightly to
perfect. Each wallet is hand constructed by Nathan in his
Brooklyn, NY studio and finished with a gold foil stamped logo using
an antique hot coil stamping machine and steel die letters and pistol
insignia from the 1940's.
Maxx & Unicorn has released forest green, exclusively for Kapok.
