The Design

The Material

The delicate working and finishing of both the Turkish leather - using as few chemical processes as possible - and fabrics gives each bag its own personality, structure and story to tell. 

The M/S Canvas Collection

The M/S canvas collection is a collaboration between Mismo and Copenhagen based retail space / fashion store Storm. In spring 2008 Mismo and Storm decided to realise a shared vision of design, aesthetics and thoroughness in a collection of meticulously crafted canvas bags for everyday and professional life.

Kapok is very proud to present the M/S Canvas Collection, with the latest addition of Weekend Bag to the line, and also the new colorway "Curry", which actually reminds us the Carhatt Brown and brings a warmish feeling to the collection. And items of this collection, from Holdall to Laptop Sleeves, will be available in this color.

The collection includes professional totes and everyday travel bags. Details-wise, the story of this collection remains the same: the bag is clean and simple, with full-grain leather trimmings, and heavy-duty and high quality canvas (they use the same Italian Canvas as Hermes and Louis Vuitton do).

Besides, Kapok also selected the full-grain leather accessories from MISMO, including wallets and card holder. The full-grain leather collection is composed of timeless bags representing built-to-last design, quality and function. The collection’s simple yet sophisticated look reflects the personal style and refinement of the bag’s owner. Originally conceived in 2006 from a desire to create optimal protection for the laptop, the full-grain leather collection has grown to encompass a select array of bags and accessories designed for work, travel and everyday use.

Thomsen Paris AW 09 - Whoever, Wherever.

“It’s about wearing one of our shirts with a pair of jeans and loose hair and having the grace of Jane Birkin,” says Paris-based stylist Alix Thomsen.

Alix Thomen, the founder of the Thomsen shirts, decided early on to be independent: a life of 23 yo young girl who was just a little left out when young, now she’s as hot as can be. The girl works at Lacoste studio with Christophe Lemaire during the day and at Baron or Regine’s after dark, where she accompanies her boyfriend, Lionel, owner of the trendy night scene of the capital. With Lionel and another friend, former France director of American Apparel, Alix decided to create a collection of shirts at affordable price, with forms and volumes which stick to simple desires for day, but could also carry on till night without changing! 

Thomsen’s creations are for both boys and girls, be it Liberty floral or plain checks, they are made to live in and well worn. Alix wants the cut to mix with volume but different from dresses and tunics. Natural fabrics or denim were applied. The result is handsomely casual, relax and lounging. For the first look-book, Alix invited friends to become the face-of, Melvil Poupaud among others shown shirts in the most possible nonchalant way. Make way, Kitsuné!

Born in Paris in 2000

SURFACE TO AIR is a unique group operating in contemporary fashion, communication and film.
At the beginning in the late 90’s Surface To Air consisted of a group of friends who wanted to work on projects they liked. Year after year, the team has grown into a multidisciplinary company spanning across creative domains such as fashion, graphics, photography, design, music, films… Today each company develops its own activity but always within the Surface To Air vision.

Although Surface to Air is now known as the architects of one of the most avant-garde brands in fashion, their beginnings were much more humble. Surface to Air was born out of a beat up old loft in Union Square, NY in 1996. Its initial members began to work together as artists, and the space quickly transformed itself into a cultural breeding ground for other emerging artists to come and create. In the years that have followed, Surface to Air has transformed into a multi-disciplined agency, with operations in New York, Stockholm, Paris and Tokyo, and has become home to some of the most talented creatives from around the globe. With their hands in everything from photography, fashion, music and film, Surface to Air is shaping a new tradition in a space where creativity and commerce meet.

Surface To Air is first of all a collection which offers a modern interpretation of classic and technical garments. Autumn/Winter 2009 

The main collection pulls from the English dandy tradition. It stays mostly within a neutral color scheme, pale blues, cream, mustard and greys, suitable for the long winter months, with the clear exception of a red plaid shirt. There are several outerwear options, including a wool pea coat and a corduroy blazer with contrast elbow patches. The shirt offerings cover all the bases: spread collar, western, corduroy, chambray, and everything in between. The choices in accessories are equally varied as the brand continues to expand into small leather goods like wallets and toiletry bag.

LAByrinth is an evolution of DNA Gifts, offered originally through DNA Tech Limited (a subsidiary of Hai Kang Life Corporation - which continues to process and certify all of LAByrinth's Amula DNA Jewellery.

It arose in 2005 out of a desire to explore the aesthetic of science and discovery, of how science and technology inform our cultural and self-perceptions.

Lip Collection Historique - ahead of their time

Founded in 1867, Lip has a truly prestigious history. Before becoming the first watch maker in the market to be design-driven, Lip began by producing watches and chronographs for the French army and air force during First and Second World Wars. During the early 1970’s, changes in the market led to a need for product redesign. Seven high profile external and multi disciplined designers were drafted in to redesign watches and create two unique collections. The outcome carved a promising pathway for the brand, whose styles can be compared nowadays with the likes of Diesel and Nixon. Of the seven designers, Roger Tallon (designer of France’s iconic TGV high speed train) has arguably been the most influential, and his work can now be seen in the Mach 2000 collection.

This heritage collection delves further into Lip’s rich 141 year history. Watches include the Napoleon wristwatch, an adaption of a pocket watch presented to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807 by Emmanuel Lipman, predecessor to the LIP brand.

The Collection Historique also includes the lip Type 10, a faithful reproduction of a 1930's aeronautical chronograph, used for the first southern Atlantic aerial crossing by French aviation pioneer Jean Mermoz.

The lip Charles de Gaulle watch has a particularly significant place in French history, elaborated to mark the end of WWII and was subsequently given to Charles de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, Eisenhower and in 1994 to President Bill Clinton to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Industrial elegance - VC1 cufflinks by VOID watches

VOID - In astronomy, voids are the empty spaces between filaments, the largest-scale structures in the universe, that contain very few, or no, galaxies. Voids typically have a diameter of 40 to 500 million light years.

 

The latest addition to the range from VOID Watches is a pair of cufflinks available in three different colors: black, gold and silver. Intrigued by the thought of making a beautiful object using industrial machinery, Swedish designer David Ericsson designed a pair of cufflinks that can be considered the machine operators’ and the wearers’ best friend. 

“I think there is something really interesting in the concept of creating jewellery in a standard factory using the same machines that pump out engine parts the main time,” says Ericsson. Every detail and angle is not only carefully proportioned, but also made to fit the machine and the tools by which they are made. The bottom angle in the cone in the front end of the cufflink is 118 degrees, the standard tip angle of a drill.

The cufflinks are produced by a CNC lathe and made in 100% recyclable aluminum that is anodised for a strong long lasting finish. They will last a lifetime!

Eco-friendly

A WASARA item can serve its purpose only once, such is the fate of paper tableware. Yet, it is designed to minimise the environmental burden, a global issue of our time. Therefore, WASARA employed reed pulp and bagasse (sugarcane waste) for its material. Reeds have strong life force, and are in no danger of extinction. Produced after extracting juice from sugarcane, bagasse is sometimes discarded, but its intrinsic nature is perfect as a paper material. Hence, by replacing wood pulp with non-wood materials such as bagasse and reeds, resources can be used efficiently. WASARA is a tableware that blends with the natural practice of reducing waste. 

Form and texture portray sensibility

Fitting comfortably in the hands, having a sense of stability, and accentuating food and drinks, WASARA’s form and texture make it clearly distinct from other disposable ware.
